Tasting Malvasia di Casorzo

 Name: Malvasia di Casorzo

Variety of the grapes: Malvasia

Country of origin: Italy

Region of origin: Piedmont

Vintage year: 2021

Price: $13.95

Vintage Cellar: “Sweet, but not too sweet, with balanced acidity. Nice round red fruit of cherries and strawberries. Aromas of roses and a lingering fruity finish. This wine is not fully sparkling, but had a slightly effervesce.”

Wine Folly: This win is a dessert wine and is on the lower end of alcohol percentage. Page 22 of the text discusses the alcohol in various wines. I definitely tased the fruitiness of the wine and smelled the cherry aroma. Aroma scales are discuses on page 30 of the text. This wine belongs to the red fruit wine category.

My Review: OH MY LANTA... This may be my favorite wine so far. I know that it is my second wine, but heck I said what I said. The combination of a sweet cherry flavor and the carbonation in the wine was delightful. One thing that I observed is that the warmer the wine was (the longer I held the wine glass in my hand), the sweeter the cheery flavor. I also paired this wine with summer sausage (same reason, I was a little hungry ha-ha) and noticed the pairing make everything taste a little richer. This is a 100% recommend!

Tasting - Schlank Haus Riesling Spätlese

Name: Schlank Haus Riesling Spätlese

Variety of the grapes: Riesling

Country of origin: Germany

Region of origin: Nahe

Vintage year: 2021

Price: $14.95

Vintage Cellar: “Ripe mango and guava notes are a bit confected but tasty in this juicy, easy-drinking Riesling. Medium sweet in style, it’s balanced by zesty lime acidity and a hint of earthen minerality on the finish.”

Wine Folly: The text on pages 158 provides an overall description of Riesling which includes: lime, green apple, beeswax, jasmine, and petroleum. I definitely tasted a hint of lime flavor, but more so as a background taste. I also tasted the green apple flavor, but did not detect any of the other flavors.

My Review: Great wine! I enjoyed this well-balanced wine. I definitely agree with the lime acidity, but was unable to detect the "Ripe and guava notes". I paired the Riesling with some summer sausage as I got a little hungry and think that they paired well together. The sausage had more of a mellow flavor and was not as aggressive in flavor. This was definitely an easy-drinking wine, and I would most definitely drink this again!

Blog Introduction

Hello and welcome to my wine blog!

My name is Charles, and I am a senior in Materials Science and Engineering. I personally do not have any prior experience drinking wine. My mom has always enjoyed a glass of wine during our family dinners. I always thought that it was "weird" to drink wine so often but realize that it is quite common and that it pairs well with certain foods. Now that my sister is 21, she will drink wine with my mom whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Actually, I have had one prior experience with wine. I do not know if it counts, but here it goes. When I was 10 years old, I drank a sip of wine during communion at a new church that my family was attending. I was unfamiliar with what the contents of the cup were and decided to take a sip as everyone else was doing so. Now that I think about it, it was only the adults who were doing it and I do not remember why I thought it would be a good idea for me to do so. All I remember is waking up an hour or so later back home.

I hope to learn how to drink wine in a social setting and understand the different types of wines that are available. This is a great opportunity to be able to know more about the culture of wine and use it in a social setting wherever that is with peers, friends, or family. I think that this is also a great opportunity to gather with other classmates in a social setting outside of the classroom where we can learn about a new topic together not pertaining to our current studies.
